New research on age and grasping fundamental concepts

Benedict Carey recently published an article in the New York Times that examines long-held beliefs and assumptions about brain development in children. “Studying Young Minds, and How to Teach Them” outlines the shifts some teachers and schools are making, including a move from teaching math as counting skills, to math as quantity recognition. The post has sparked interesting comments, as well.
